Samos Conference in Actuarial Science and Finance
June 3-6, 2010
The Department of Statistics & Actuarial – Financial Mathematics of
the University of the Aegean is pleased to host the 6th Samos
Conference in Actuarial Science and Finance, to be held on
Samos,on June 3-6, 2010.
This event, jointly organized with the Katholieke Universiteit
Leuven, the Universite Catholique de Louvain and the Kobenhavns
Universitet, provides a forum for state-of-the-art results and the
latest advances in the area of actuarial science and finance. The
meeting is open to people from Universities, Insurance Companies,
Banks, Consulting Firms or Regulatory Authorities, interested in
actuarial-financial mathematics.
A short course will take place before the conference (31st of May –
2nd of June, 2008 ) under the title: Financial Modeling with Levy
Processes, by Rama
Cont
The conference will be held in the town of Karlovassi,
on the island of Samos. Samos
is one of the most fortunate of the Greek islands in the Aegean
Archipelago with its variety of natural beauties (Samos Potami), its
long and rich history and its lively economy. The natural
attractions of Samos do not stop at a few picturesque old ports or fine
beaches. Samos also has rugged mountain scenery to offer
the visitor and peaceful, fertile plains.
Samos's location played a great role in its development. It lies in
the Eastern Aegean, very close to the coast of Asia Minor (to which
it was joined until earthquakes brought about a separation), in the
heart of Ionia, almost midway along the sea route that links Greece with
Anatolia, the Black Lack Sea, Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Samos, the birthplace of Pythagoras, Aristarchus and Epicurus,
is one of the biggest islands. Its unique natural, the climate and
the archaeological interest have turned this island in a distinct
resort and a historical treasure that gathers many tourists

MACOM-2010
13-14 September 2010
3rd International Workshop on Multiple Access Communications
Annual Scientific Event on Advances in Networking
13-14 September 2010, Barcelona, Spain
Web Site:
http://www.csit-spb.ru/macom2010.html
Aims and Topics
Claude Shannon established the foundation for the discipline now
known as "multi-user information theory" in his pioneering paper
"Two-way Communication Channels" in 1961 and later Norman Abramson
published his paper "The Aloha System - Another Alternative for
Computer Communications" in 1970 which introduced the concept of
multiple access using a shared common channel. Thereafter for more
than 40 years of study, numerous elegant theories and algorithms
have been developed for multiple access techniques.
In recent years, broadband wireless data networks (for instance,
IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.16 WiMAX) are driving the development of
telecommunication industry and beyond 3G (B3G) wireless systems are
expected to provide a variety of multimedia services in a wide range
of wireless and mobile environments. To use the scarce bandwidth
resource of the wireless channel, it is necessary to design channel
access control techniques for a large population of users
(potentially hundreds of mobile stations).
The aim of this workshop is to discuss both multi-user
communications theory and multiple access techniques and
standardization activities in areas related to PHY and MAC layer
protocols for contemporary networks and their interactions. We
intend to provide the experts from both the academic institutes and
industry with an opportunity to present their art-of-the-state
results and exchange the ideas on multiple access techniques and
related areas.
